Candidate for U.S. Senate comments on death of Benazir Bhutto
The death of Benazir Bhutto is a great tragedy. It is also an example of the futility that comes when people use violence to settle their differences.
American foreign policy cannot rely exclusively on military expenditures to influence events, especially in this unstable region of the world. Pakistan has been and is even more so today the most volatile country in the region. It poses the greatest threat to our national security with its arsenal of nuclear weaponry which remains under the control of military and intelligence leadership with questionable loyalties.
As we celebrate the Message of Peace in this season, let us work and pray that the violence which took the life of Benazir Bhutto does not beget more violence for the people of Pakistan.
